Court to state: Explain why Gaza students denied entry to Israel

The High Court of Justice on Wednesday ordered the state to explain why it has prohibited Palestinian students from the Gaza Strip from crossing through Israel to attend courses at the West Bank university where they are registered.

A government policy went into effect last month barring Palestinian students from entering Israel, with no consideration to individual cases.

The court issued a temporary injunction to the state to explain its policy, in response to a petition submitted by the non-profit organization Gisha (access) on behalf of ten Palestinian students of Occupational Therapy (OT) students barred from crossing through Israel to attend the University of Bethlehem.

Institutions of higher education in the Gaza Strip do no not offer courses in OT, leaving the students no option but to find an alternative institution to pursue their field of study.

They were denied entry in Israel without having their individual cases or personal levels of security threats evaluated by the defense establishment, and have since been following their course lectures via video conference calls.

Once again the High Court in Israel has proven that it is out of touch with reality.

Why should Israel let a single Arab out of Gaza for any reason as long as rockets are being fired out of Gaza into Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza smuggle in through tunnels hundreds of tons of weapons including the Russian anti tank missile’s that caused the IDF in Lebanon such problems.

Israel who provides most of the electricity and all the phone infrastructure in Gaza for the Palestinians should as long as rockets are being fired cut off all support that the Palestinians receive from Israel.

We should not worry if students can travel through Israel, students that will be carrying with them communications between terrorist groups so that they can be part of murdering Jews.

It is time that the High Court of Israel remembers it is in fact the High Court of Israel and not the Palestinians.
