Tutu Appointed to Head UN Inquiry Into Beit Hanoun Incident 17:39 Nov 29, '06 / 8 Kislev 5767

(IsraelNN.com) The well-known South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu will be heading an United Nations fact-finding mission investigating the November 8 shelling of a residential building in Gaza's Beit Hanoun area. IDF artillery is alleged to have caused the death of 20 people in the incident.

Beit Hanoun has been the scene of innumerable enemy rocket launchings against Jewish targets in the western Negev. IDF sources said that a shell intended to strike at rocket launching terrorists in Beit Hanoun accidentally slammed into the occupied building in question.

Archbishop Tutu, who was a leading opponent of South African apartheid, has in the past compared Israel to that racist regime, has compared Zionism itself to racism, and has said that Jews wield undue influence in the West, among other controversial comments.
