Congressmen Doubt Bush Plan to Back Abbas's Militia
Congressmen Doubt Bush Plan to Back Abbas's Militia(IsraelNN.com) Congressmen doubtful of the Bush administration plan to spend $59 million to back the Presidential Guard of Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas have questioned if "there are Palestinian moderates" and how they can be distinguished from "extremists."
In testimony before a Congressional committee, Middle East military envoy Lt. Gen Keith Dayton tried to convince the legislators by detailing security programs aimed at helping Abbas. He insisted the aid already has improved Abbas's control of violence in Gaza.
Indiana Republican Mike Pence quipped, "Are there Palestinian moderates, and if there are some, how do we get more of them?"
Congress needs to cut off the funding for President Bushes fantasy about peace with the Palestinians. Let Abbas fall and let the Palestinians show their true face to the world.
We must remember that despite the fantasies of Bush and Rice, Abbas is Yasser Arafat in a $2,000 suit and a shave.
I agree with the President that their should be democracy in the Middle East . This would allow the whole world to see the true face of Islam and might just might help the world face up to the danger that is lurking just below the surface of the strong man leadership that is the norm in the Arab world.
