MKs Will Have to Swear Allegiance to Jewish State
MKs Will Have to Swear Allegiance to Jewish State(IsraelNN.com) The Knesset plenum Wednesday voted in favor of a law that would require Knesset Members to swear allegiance to Israel as a democratic and Jewish state. The law was passed in a preliminary reading and would have to pass two more readings before it becomes valid.
The law was drafted by MKs David Rotem (Yisrael Beiteinu) and Zevulun Orlev (NU/NRP). Orlev rejoiced after the vote, saying today was "a great day for the Knesset and Israel's democratic and Jewish identity."
MKs Achmed Tibi (Ra'am) and Zehava Gal-On (Meretz) called the law "fascist."
This is a good first step and shows their is still hope for Israel as a Jewish State.
