Iranian Official: We Will Retaliate Against Israel(IsraelNN.com) Muhammad Baqer Zolghadr, the deputy interior minister in charge of security issues, told the AFP news service that if attacked by the US, Iran would retaliate against civilian targets of US allies in the region, including Israel. Iran has been trying to deter Gulf States from allowing the US to use their countries as a staging ground for an offensive against it.
So the answer is to hit Iran so hard and with so much in such a short time that they are left with nothing with which to hit back.
