How True, How Sad

Ma'ariv Fires Salvo at Beinisch

(IsraelNN.com) The President of the Supreme Court - a figure traditionally immune from frontal attack by the Israeli press - is coming under unprecedented criticism, especially in the Op-Ed section of Ma'ariv, Israel's second largest daily newspaper. Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch is taking heavy fire for the way she humiliated the Attorney General's team in the Katzav trial.

A weekend article by the editor, Amnon Dankner, takes a quasi-Talmudic tack and says that the courts in Israel have three schools of thought: Beit Hillel (the house, or school, of Hillel), which is lenient; Beit Shammai (the house, or school, of Shammai), which is stricter – and beit zonot (a whorehouse), which is only cruel to people who do not have the right connections. Under Judges Beinisch and Arbel, the court has chosen the latter path, Dankner wrote.

The Op-Ed section editor, Ben-Dror Yemini, published an article Sunday in which he noted that an investigation against Beinisch's husband, Attorney Yechiel Beinisch, who was suspected of corruption, was terminated by Attorney General Mazuz, yet Beinisch is now questioning the same AG's right to terminate the case against former President Katzav. He also noted that Beinisch said during the Katzav hearings that the AG's team "need not ask what the danger of acquittal is, but rather what the chance of obtaining a guilty verdict is," and asked whether this does not apply to Beinisch's husband as well.

The sad fact is justice is for sale in Israel either for cash or connections, which of course means their is no justice in Israel.

Corruption is rotting Israel from the inside out and it extends from the top down to the smallest Moshav and it must be cut out of Israeli society in order to create the kind of State we can be proud of.
