Anarchists Demolish 30 Meters of Security Fence
by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz(IsraelNN.com) Radicals from the Anarchists Against the Wall organization vandalized 30 meters of Israel's counter-terrorism barrier on Saturday. The destruction included electronic sensors and other equipment worth hundreds of thousands of shekels.
No arrests have been made.The damage was done to a section of the security fence in the southern Hevron Hills, near the Arab village of Beit Mirsim. Local Arabs also took part in the vandalism. No arrests have been made, despite the fact that police are aware of the identities of the perpetrators.
Activists from the anarchist organization said they chose that portion of the fence, where it runs both along and within the pre-1967 Green Line, in order to show their opposition to the counter-terrorism barrier regardless of its location. They also said they would continue to destroy as much of the fence as they could, anywhere they could, whether in pre-1967 Israel or in Judea and Samaria.
Anarchists and Arab vandals also cut through a section of the security fence near Bethlehem in July.
Anarchists Against the Wall, founded in 2003, have cooperated in the past with the International Solidarity Movement, which supports anti-Israel terrorism stemming from Gaza, Judea and Samaria.
In a related attack on the separation barrier on Friday, two border guard soldiers were lightly injured when left-wing activists and local Arabs threw rocks at them in the village of Bil'in. The soldiers were assigned to protect the fence in the vicinity of the village. north of Jerusalem, to take part in protests every Friday. The leftists say they are protesting the construction of the security fence in the area. The protests often become violent, and several police officers and left-wing activists have been wounded in various incidents.
I have never been in favor of the fence, it places hundreds of thousands of Israelis on the other side of the fence and is in effect a de facto border.
But when terrorist supporters come and destroy the fence they are seeking ways to allow the terrorist access from Judea and Samaria into the major cities of Israel to engage in terrorism against Israeli civilians. So the IDF and Border Police should be given orders to shoot anyone attempting to damage the fence.
Any thing less than orders to shoot these terrorist supporters shows that Israel isn't even serious about the fence.
