Published: 10.14.07, 16:54 / Israel NewsJerusalem is not on the negotiations table, Deputy Prime Minister and Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai told US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Sunday afternoon.
The two held a very tense meeting in Jerusalem, which brought to the surface the deep gaps between the leaders of the negotiations with the Palestinians in the Israeli government and the opposition within the coalition.
"I am a man of peace and I long for peace," Yishai added. "We have waited for real negotiations for a very long time, and we can wait some more.
"Thirty years ago, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef issued a brave and unprecedented halachic ruling of territory for peace, with real Israeli concessions. But these concessions must be made when we have a real partner which is capable of controlling its people. This is not the situation now with Abu Mazen (Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
"Today we have a Palestinian Authority with two heads. It is impossible to sign an agreement with only 40% of the Palestinian people. We need a real reinforcement, rather than a virtual one. Only an economic conference can bolster Abu Mazen."
Yishai added that the Annapolis conference must lead to diplomatic negotiations.
"If the parties return with a signed agreement, this could shock the government and cause it to collapse. And I am talking as a man who seeks peace and longs for peace," the minister said.
Rice rejected the offer to hold an economic conference, saying that "we are at the critical stage of implementing President George Bush's vision to create a quiet and calm region here.
"We also have a vision of a Jewish and democratic country. President Bush is a true friend of Israel, particularly during the hard times. We have common enemies.
"I am convinced that the Palestinians need an independent country. The Annapolis conference will discuss the core issues, but the negotiations will be held in a direct manner.
"The international community will not serve as an alternative for real negotiations. We have reached the time of making decision, and I promise that Israel will not be faced with any surprises at the conference," she concluded.
I want to point out some inconsistencies in statement by both Rice and Yishai.
First lets look at the inconsistencies in what Yishai has said, "Jerusalem is not on the negotiations table" what dream world is he living in. It is clear that Israeli leaders such as Prime Minister Olmert, Deputy Prime Minister Haim Ramon and other Israeli leaders have put Jerusalem on the table.
The Palestinians have demanded that the Kotel be placed under their administrative offices as part of the final agreement.
Lastly it is clear that President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice view Jerusalem's status as being on the table.
I really don't think that Jerusalem is important to Minister Yishai and Shas for if it was they would be seeking to topple the Olmert government now and not wait until Olmert returns with a signed agreement, for then it will be too late to keep Jerusalem in our hands.
Now as to the inconsistencies of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice statements." President Bush is a true friend of Israel, particularly during the hard times. " If this were true then why is he pushing this "peace" summit with the goal being Israel retreating from Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem.
Rice states"I am convinced that the Palestinians need an independent country", why?
So they can launch rockets from Judea and Samaria into Tel Aviv, you and your boss President Bush supported the retreat from Gaza by Israel and look what Israel has gained from it, rockets falling on Israel every day that's what.
"We have common enemies." No we do not!
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice we have Iran as a common enemy, so what when push comes to shove Israel will be forced to stand by itself and solve the problem.
You have former Presidents and other politicians on the pay roll of an enemy of Israel, Saudi Arabia.
You push a terror state for the Palestinians who want nothing less than the destruction of the State of Israel and the murder of 6,000,000 Jews.
So let's get down to the bottom line, Yishai and Rice you both are liars.
The future of the State of Israel is at peril, and it is all a game to you two jokers.
