Colonel Avi Feld Promoted, Will Head Golani(IsraelNN.com) IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi decided Monday to promote Colonel Avi Feld, who in 2006 headed the area in which IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by terrorists. Feld will command the Golani brigade.
IDF Major-General Giora Eiland had issued a report harshly criticizing the performance of Feld’s brigade during the 2006 kidnapping. However, IDF officials said Monday that Feld was “brave and professional,” and an appropriate candidate for his new position. Eiland did not protest the appointment, saying he was sure that Ashkenazi had weighed the step carefully.
As a parent of a soldier I find the promotion of Colonel Feld to be disgusting.
He lost one of his soldiers and his brigade failed to perform to standard following the kidnapping of Gilad Shallit.
But in the Israel of today we fail to hold politicians accountable for their actions and now we have allowed this sick culture to infect the IDF.
Thank G-D my son is not in Golani.
