PMO: ‘Ashkenazi Not Morality Officer’
PMO: ‘Ashkenazi Not Morality Officer’(IsraelNN.com) Government sources close to the Prime Minister slammed a letter sent by IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi to President Shimon Peres, asking him not to release Palestinian Authority prisoners from Gaza.
The Prime Minister’s Office was quoted by IDF Radio as saying that Ashkenazi “is not the morality officer of the government.” The phrase is a reference to the letter in which the IDF Chief of General Staff said it would be “unethical and immoral” to release Gaza terrorists while IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit is still being held in captivity in Gaza by his kidnappers.
Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office did not deny the statement but said there was complete trust between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and the IDF Chief of General Staff. The release of 87 PA prisoners was approved by Olmert as a “good will gesture” to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
No wonder the Prime Minister is upset, the Chief of Staff of the IDF has dared to remember his hostage soldier in Gaza and wants Gilad Shalit released before we return any terrorist to Gaza.
It seems to me at least one person takes his responsibility seriously and it's not Olmert.
