Five Qassam rockets were fired at the southern town of Sderot on Tuesday evening. One of them hit an apartment building in the city, and several people suffered from shock.

Two additional rockets landed in open areas. The Salah al-Din Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing, claimed responsibility for firing the rockets.

Tuesday evening's barrage followed the targeted killing of the deputy commander of the Salah al-Din Brigades by the IDF. The assassination took place in the central Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, the strike targeted a vehicle carrying a senior wanted Palestinian responsible for firing rockets at Israel.

PRC spokesman Abu Abir told Ynet that the assassination of Mabarek Hasanat, the military wing's deputy commander, will not stop the resistance.

"Hasanat's fate is similar to that of the rest of the shahids (martyrs), our people. We shall continue the resistance against Israel everywhere, including through terror attacks and activities planned by Hasanat himself," Abu Abir said.

The "Sderot task force", headed by Sderot resident Alon Davidi, said in response to the rocket fire, "We support the government's military activity in Gaza and call on it to go ahead with its moral battle against the missile terror from the Gaza Strip.

It is clear that only the IDF retaking Gaza and staying there will limit and eventually stop the Qassam rocket attacks on Israel.

Israel also should have occupied southern Lebanon again, as part of the second Lebanon war, but under the leadership of Olmert Israel will do neither.
