Police: Gaydamak Interview May Have Contained Threats

(IsraelNN.com) Police announced Sunday night that Russian-Israeli billionaire Arcadi Gaydamak may have violated the law in a recent interview with Maariv. Gaydamak’s comments, including an accusation that Israel has become “a police state,” may have included threats and insults against a public worker, officials said.

“We are living in a police state,” Gaydamak said several days ago, “Police captains have a lot of power in Israel.” Most police captains do excellent work, he said, but “a number of officials working in the financial division” abuse their power and persecute innocent civilians. Several of those officials are “liars,” he said.

Police have recently questioned Gaydamak in connection with a money laundering case involving a branch of Bank HaPoalim in Tel Aviv. Investigators have announced that they believe they will have sufficient evidence to bring Gaydamak to trial when the investigation concludes.

If speaking out and calling Israel a police state is a crime, then guess what it has become a police state.

We need to break the power of the state and put the power into the hands of the people where it should have been to begin with.
