Are Shin Bet Provocateurs at Work to Slander the Right?

(IsraelNN.com) Rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe, head of the Task Force to Save the People and the Land (HaMateh L'Hatzalat Ha'Am VehaAretz) organization, has asked Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to investigate the Shabak (General Security Service).

Rabbi Wolpe asked if "the Jewish Department" of the Shabak is still employing agent provocateurs such as Avishai Raviv, in order to slander the right in general and Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria in particular. Raviv's mission was to encourage acts of right wing extremism. Raviv's work preceeeded the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995. Raviv had befriended convicted Rabin assassin Yigal Amir and alledgedly encouraged him to be an extremist.

According to the OMedia website, Wolpe's request follows the finding of written announcements near the site where a pipe bomb wounded Professor Ze'ev Sternhell. The professor is a vehement opponent to a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, which led police to say they suspected members of the right in the attack.

Wolpe also asked the attorney-general to give his opinion on Sternhell's remarks, saying Sternhell "incited Arabs to attack residents of the settlements, and we have not heard to this day that he is being investigated for his words."
