Mumbai Crowd almost Lynched Israeli, Chabad Officials
(IsraelNN.com) A Mumbai crowd almost lynched the husband of an Israeli consular official and a friend of slain Chabad Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg Wednesday night, thinking they were terrorists. Kobi Albans, whose wife heads the consulate, and a Chabad member reached the Chabad House along with a Consulate security officer after hearing of the terrorist attack.
However, hundreds of Mumbai residents who also had reached the building assumed they were terrorists because of their Western dress and began to punch and hit them. Police arrived, arrested them and kept them in a cell for 10 hours until a police officer recognized the consular official's husband and released them. They had not carried any identification papers with them because of the rush to arrive at the Chabad House.
