Bethlehem - Ma'an - Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has approved the
transfer of 2,600 calves from Israel into the besieged Gaza Strip ahead of
the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

According to Israel Radio, Barak made the decision after meeting with
Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon

The head of the defense ministry's military-political bureau, Amos Gilad,
had previously rejected a shipment of cows to Gaza, angering Israeli cattle
ranchers, who said that the decision would result in millions of shekels of
lost potential revenue.
