TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali
Akbar Salehi announced on Monday that the country plans to unveil a series
of new achievements on Iran's annual National Day of Nuclear Technology.

"On Friday, concurrent with the National Day of Nuclear Technology, a number
of our country's achievements would be unveiled in the presence of the
president," Salehi stated.

Salehi did not mention if the new achievements have been made in Iran's
indigenous civilian nuclear technology or any other field, but said that the
Iranian people should wait to hear some good news during the ceremonies to
be held on Friday.

The nuclear official further pointed to the ongoing international pressures
on Iran for its nuclear activities, and called on his organization's
personnel to double their endeavors and efforts to "make up for the rough
political and international conditions created by the West against Iran".

"Self-reliance in this (nuclear) industry requires doubled and multiplied
activities and needs double endeavors and high self-confidence if we intend
to be in a good position," he added.

Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear
weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never
presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran
denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful
purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to
provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel
would eventually run dry.

Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling
every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment,
Tehran is now under three rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for
turning down West's illegitimate calls to give up its right of uranium
enrichment.

Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical,
stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national
resolve to continue the path.
