Zoabi condemns 34 to 16 vote as 'punishing her out of revenge.'
The Knesset voted 34 to 16 to strip MK Haneen Zoabi of her parliamentary privileges Tuesday for her participation in the May 31 Gaza flotilla, which provoked a naval raid by Israel and left nine Turkish citizens dead.
Zoabi condemned the Knesset for "punishing [her] out of revenge."
As part of the decision, her diplomatic passport was revoked, and the state would not fund her legal fees.
The motion to strip her of privileges, initiated by MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union), was under discussion by the Knesset Tuesday. MK Yariv Levin (Likud) told Zoabi that "you don't have a place in the Knesset," and "you do not deserve Israeli citizenship."
In an interview with Channel 2 Tuesday night, Zoabi stated she expected the Knesset to revoke her privileges.
She said "[The Knesset] has no idea what democracy is here. I represent my views, my party's views, and the views of all the Arab members of the Knesset."
Zoabi said the Libyan aid ship, which is currently bound for Gaza, proved that "there is a world consensus that the blockade of Gaza is illegitimate." Zoabi said she supports the Libyan ship as well.
Zoabi condemned the Knesset, saying "you were supposed to defend my right to express my opinions," and "protect me from racism which targeted me for my views.
"I stand not only for my peoples' views, but for a global consensus."
In June, The House Committee of the Knesset voted seven to one to deny Zoabi her privilege to hold a diplomatic passport; her right to subsidized legal counsel in the event of criminal proceedings against her over her participation in the flotilla, or for any related future offenses; and any extra privileges she could enjoy as a member of Knesset traveling overseas.
My question is who is going to protect Israel from her treason.
Zoabi can not have it both ways being a Knesset member and then when she committees treason scream Israel is anti democratic.
Democracy does not mean you have to allow members of the legislative body of a country the freedom of treason.
My answer to her is accept Israel as the Jewish state and commit to the seven laws of Noah, or leave of your own free will.
If you choose not to do either of the above then you should be tried for treason and if found guilty be given the death sentence.
