At a ceremony held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign
Affairs Avigdor Liberman, Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovitch
and Vice Inspector General Ilan Franco awarded certificates of appreciation
to the police officers who returned from the aid mission to Haiti.
FM Liberman told the officers that their mission contributed to Israel's
international standing and image more than any other conventional diplomatic
effort. The Minister also thanked the United Nations and the Italian
government and police force for their cooperation.
Minister of Public Security Aharonovitch told the police officers that he
was proud of their achievements, adding that members of all the branches of
the Police Force participated in the mission, which brought great credit to
Israel.
Major General Franco praised the cooperation with the MFA, and said that in
their efforts, the contingent brought respect to the Israel Police Force and
to the State of Israel.
UN representative Maxwell Gillard thanked the officers for their
contribution to the Haiti mission and expressed his appreciation of the
personal sacrifice of all members of the contingent.
The commander of the task force, Chief Superintendant Meir Namir, stated on
behalf of the contingent that "This was a mission of values," and all
members felt privileged to have been able to participate and "deliver the
goods" vis-à-vis the values of the State of Israel and the values and
professionalism of the Israel Police Force.
